Welcome to the Campbell Global Change Biology Research Lab at Florida International University!

We are a diverse research group exploring how anthropogenic stressors influence the structure and function of marine ecosystems.

Our work integrates across several sub-disciplines of ecology (ecophysiology / community ecology / ecosystems ecology) to examine the effects of environmental change over multiple spatiotemporal dimensions.

With an emphasis on seagrass and coral reef habitats, we use laboratory analyses and field techniques to understand how foundational species respond to stressors such as ocean acidification, ocean warming, harmful algal blooms, overfishing and altered food web dynamics. Broadly, we seek to address three fundamental and interrelated questions: (1) How do abiotic and biotic stressors interact to influence the functioning of marine ecosystems? (2) What drives patterns of ecological resilience across large spatial scales? and (3) If properly managed, can healthy marine ecosystems serve as a viable means for mitigating future climate change?

We are based within the Coastlines and Oceans Division of the Institute of Environment at Florida International University, located at the Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami, Florida. We primarily work in South Florida with research sites across Biscayne Bay and the Florida Keys.

Our work has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Vesta Earth, The Nature Conservancy, Mote Marine Laboratory and The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
